After completing this course, you need an SIA (Security Industry Authority) licence to work in CCTV operations in the UK.

The SIA is a government-approved body regulating the UK’s private security industry. They set the standards for training and qualifications that security professionals need.

A Level 2 Qualification in CCTV Operations (PSS) is required to apply for a CCTV Operator Licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA). You’ll need to be at least 18 years old, have legal permission to work in the UK, and clear a criminal background check, too.

The Level 2 Qualification in CCTV Operations (PSS) covers the following topics:

  • The legal aspects of CCTV monitoring
  • The use of CCTV equipment
  • The principles of CCTV operations
  • The ethical considerations of CCTV monitoring
  • The practical skills of CCTV operation

The course is typically delivered over 3 days and includes a combination of classroom and practical exercises.

Once you have completed the course and obtained the qualification, you can apply for an SIA CCTV Licence. The application process is online and takes about 10 minutes to complete.
